STARSHIP STARRING MICKEY THOMAS

The Rhythms of Venetian Music Festival has established a recent tradition of bringing to East Park original vintage era rock & roll artists, the likes of Herman's Hermits with Peter Noone, WAR, Edgar Winter, Dave Mason and the Greg Rolle Band (songwriter and lead vocalist of Santana).  True to form, the Rhythms of Venetian proudly presents Starship starring Mickey Thomas on Wednesday, July 23, 2008.

Mickey Thomas is the owner of the soaring voice that propelled Starship through the '80's and '90's. Mickey is celebrating his 30th anniversary with Starship, after joining Jefferson Starship in the late 1970's as lead vocalist, upon the departure of Grace Slick and Marty Balin. Backed by the power of Mickey's vocals, Jefferson Starship immediately scored a # 1 hit with "Jane." With this new sound and powerful new vocals, the group was renamed Starship and every Starship album has gone Gold, Platinum or Multi-Platinum.

Mickey first made his mark in 1976 as lead vocalist on the mega-hit "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" with The Elvin Bishop Band.  With his soulful and compelling vocals, Mickey has established himself as one of rock's most recognizable stars, propelling Starship through an amazing string of hits including "No Way Out," "We Built This City," "Sara" and "Find Your Way Back."  Mickey  also received an Oscar nomination for the # 1 hit "Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now" from the movie "Mannequin."

Mickey's band mates in Starship include Stephanie Calvert (vocals), Mark Abrahamian (lead guitar, vocals), Jeff Adams (bass, vocals), Phil Bennett (keyboards, vocals) and Darrell "Pelican" Verdusco (drums, vocals). Be sure to catch the parade of hit songs on Venetian Wednesday, when East Park is filled by the stellar voices of Starship starring Mickey Thomas.
