ABOUT THE KIDS

The KIDS from Wisconsin program was conceived and developed in 1969 at the request of the late Wisconsin Governor Warren P. Knowles who, given the turbulence of the late 1960's, wanted to show the nation the best face of Wisconsin's youth.  Comprised of 20 singers/dancers and a 13-piece show band, the troupe has represented teenagers between the ages of 15 and 20, from every part of the State of Wisconsin.

Preparation for each summer tour begins months earlier with auditions in February. Potential KIDS are invited to audition from hundreds of applicants each year. In June, the 33-member troupe, along with eight alternates, come together at the Wisconsin State Fair Park for an intense 17-day show camp. The performers are put through the paces as they learn, practice and perfect the numbers that become their show.

The KIDS have presented original revues each year at fairs, festivals, conventions and benefits across the United States and Canada, in a demanding schedule encompassing 65 to 70 shows during the months of June, July and August.  Singers, dancers and instrumentalists deliver a vibrant show which prompts wave after wave of applause from each audience, as the KIDS perform contemporary pop songs, the music of Broadway, country hits, rock & roll, swing, jazz and many other styles.

The Charlevoix Venetian Festival has enjoyed the distinction of first bringing the KIDS to northern Michigan in 2004.  The heart-warming, toe-tapping return performance of the KIDS is the perfect prelude to the spectacular conclusion of the Festival on Venetian Saturday, featuring the acclaimed Venetian Boat Parade and stunning harbor pyrotechnics.
